The
practicality of using a Slim Jim to open car
doors is dwindling. On many car models after
1999 there are side airbags that can be
triggered by the Slim Jim while trying
to release the lock. If a locksmith or
anyone else attempting to open a car door with
a Slim Jim sets off the air bag, they'll be
responsible for the cost of having the air bag
reset. (not cheap!) Additionally, it is
possible to disconnect the linkage rod inside
the door, which will also cause the need for
repair.
Overall we
discourage the use of a Slim Jim, while
sometimes it may be the fastest mode of entry,
it is a lot safer to pick the actual pin
cylinder locking mechanism. If however, you
absolutely need one of these tools we do sell
them for only $15 upon request.
A well
practiced lock picker can open nearly every
door a Slim Jim can, and without the risk of
damage. Don't know how to pick locks yet? Read
our basic lock picking tutorial here.
