It is possible to open a lock
by lifting the pins one at a time, thus
eliminating the guesswork out of setting the
pin tumblers.
Again the first step is to
place your tension wrench at the bottom of the
keyhole, or opposite of where the pins are.
Insert the pick all the way into the back of
the lock carefully so that you do not pins any
higher than they have to go. Then apply light
pressure to the tension wrench. By
depressing each pin set in the lock up and
down a few times, the top pin will rest on the
top edge of the plug, this top edge is the
sheer line. When the top of the each pin set
reaches the sheer line, the lock is picked,
the plug will turn and then may be completely
rotated to open the lock.
The diagram below provides an
excellent illustration of both a picked pin
set, and an unpicked pin set.
